Kongshan Temple is home to a large, 7-acre lake whose shape highly resembles a Dharma Conch, thus earning it the name Faluo Lake.

It is a natural, living body of water, with an inlet and an outlet, symbolizing that the pure lineage (Dharma tradition) is long-standing and ever-flowing. This teaching has been passed down continuously from the time of the Buddha until today and will be uninterruptedly extended into the future.

The Great Master Tsongkhapa also has a famous story concerning a White Dharma Conch:

The Buddha, after his initial forty-nine days of enlightenment, remained silent. It was only after the god Brahma offered a White Dharma Conch and requested the teaching that the Buddha mercifully consented to speak the Dharma for the benefit of sentient beings.

Later, the Buddha instructed the Venerable Maudgalyayana (foremost in psychic powers) to conceal that White Conch in a certain mountain, to be retrieved in the future by a fully ordained monk (Bhikshu).

The Buddha's prophecy pointed to the Great Master Tsongkhapa, who, while constructing Ganden Monastery, retrieved the Conch from the back mountain of Ganden. It was subsequently used as a White Conch to gather the assembly of monastics during prayer festivals.

Faluo Lake, therefore, stands as a potent symbol representing the future gathering of the Sangha community at this very location.
